Sony Vaio Z The Sony VAIO Z Series is one-of-a-kind. As fast as many desktops, but no heavier than many netbooks, The Sony VAIO Z smashed the competition when it came to performance. You've got enough power to run any software you can think of, and you certainly won't need to upgrade any time soon. An upscale 13-inch laptop to give even the MacBook Air a run for its money, Sony's Vaio Z is fast, slim, and light, and includes a docking station with an optical drive and discrete graphics. The glossy display is impressive, with bright, vivid colors and good contrast. Cramming a 1920-by-1080-resolution full-HD display into only 13 inches is a neat feat. On battery test, which cycles through a series of websites and high resolution images, with brightness set at 65 percent, the Z’s integrated 4000mAH battery lasted five hours and 27 minutes.
but, It's a well-designed board that's comfortable to use. The touchpad is cramped, but sensitive. Even though this updated version of the Vaio Z is less expensive than the previous model we reviewed, it's still a premium-priced laptop. We'd almost rather skip the GPU dock and hit a more ultrabook-style price.
THE BOTTOM LINE With its incredible combination of power and portability, this is the best ultra-portable laptop of recent times. With slim 13-inch SSD laptops now well under $1,000, Sony's expensive, high-end Z series laptop is a tough sell, although the long-life slice battery and unique GPU/optical dock help make its case.
